Four New Retail And Dining Concepts Coming To Coconut Grove’s Reimagined CocoWalk

\"MisterAs the redevelopment of CocoWalk progresses, four new retail concepts have signed leases to move in when the mixed-use development reopens to the public next year. Joining the center’s tenant mix will be Mister 01 Extraordinary Pizza, an Italian pizzeria that has become one of Miami’s most popular pizzerias; Edward Beiner, a homegrown luxury eyewear boutique that will return to CocoWalk; School of Rock, a national concept that offers music lessons led by veteran composers for both children and adults; and The Spot Barbershop, which offers classic and contemporary haircuts along with grooming services for the gentlemen of Miami.

CocoWalk’s repositioned tenant roster is designed to appeal to Coconut Grove’s growing population of residents, businesspeople, and visitors. In addition to 150,000 square feet of new experiential retail, dining and entertainment space, the redevelopment will encompass a 85,762-square-foot, Class A office building – One Cocowalk – which includes a 21,000 square-foot Penthouse on the 5th floor.

Redevelopment of the new CocoWalk, considered the centerpiece of the Grove’s commercial district, scheduled to open in phases over the next 18 months, is led by Federal Realty Investment Trust, the Comras Company and Grass River Property, which jointly acquired the property in 2015.

International concept Los Generales Mezcal & Grill marked CocoWalk’s first new restaurant to be announced earlier this year. Los Generales is the creation of several top chefs from Mexico, including TV personality Chef Aquiles Chavez. Located on the third floor of CocoWalk, the 7,500-square-foot space will include a rooftop terrace overlooking the new interior courtyard and Grand Avenue.

“Our vision for CocoWalk is to attract a diverse mix of local concepts and national and international brands that will meet the everyday needs of Coconut Grove’s residents and families, businesses and visitors,” says Stuart Biel, Senior Vice President of Regional Leasing at Federal Realty Investment Trust. “New additions such as Mister 01, Edward Beiner, School of Rock, The Spot Barbershop, and Los Generales will enhance the center Grove’s retail and dining offerings, while bringing the community together for unique experiences.”

With Coconut Grove remerging as a business and lifestyle destination, more brands are looking to enter this market to serve the increasing consumer demand in the historic neighborhood. A sampling of CocoWalk’s new tenants set to open in spring 2020 include:

  • Mister 01 Extraordinary Pizza: Chef Renato Viola brought the trendy pizzeria to America from Italy. The 13-inch pies are star-shaped with a pouch of ricotta cheese in each of the eight points, an innovation that many pizza chefs have since adopted. He combines mouth-watering flavors in his specialty pies, named after his close friends and original customers. The Coffee Paolo includes gorgonzola, mozzarella, local honey, spicy salami and is dusted with fine ground imported coffee. The Piero features speck, white truffle oil and mozzarella, while the Jacqueline has tomatoes, white truffle and eggs – all extraordinary. Set to occupy 1,100 square feet of indoor and outdoor space in CocoWalk’s public plaza, this will mark the fifth location for Mister 01 in Southwest Florida.

  • Edward Beiner: Coconut Grove will soon put its best face forward with the return of eyeglass extraordinaire Edward Beiner to CocoWalk. A brand known for its carefully curated selection of artisanal eyewear, Beiner was inspired by a lifelong quest to create the world’s most imaginative, trendsetting, and high-tech eyeglasses. If seeing is believing, you won’t believe what you see at Edward Beiner, as they’ve partnered with Italian company Thema to bring Virtual Eyewear Assistant technology to the US. It allows customers to customize their eyeglasses based on eye size, color, finish, and more, making his eyewear the most customizable on the market. Set to occupy a 1,451-square-foot space on CocoWalk’s first level, this will become Edward Beiner’s largest store and its 13th location in Florida.

  • The School of Rock: open to children and adults, rookies and experienced musicians, the programs at School of Rock are designed to inspire students to learn and develop a strong musical proficiency through technique, solos, chords, and theory. Ranging from drum, piano, guitar and singing lessons, the school’s veteran composers inspire and teach their rising stars to take centerstage and perform live. The School of Rock will span 3,200 square feet on the second floor at CocoWalk. The music school, with several locations in South Florida, performs thousands of shows across the world each year.

  • The Spot Barbershop: For a haircut that’s truly a cut above the rest, The Spot Barbershop offers classic men’s grooming services in a modern setting, a service currently lacking in the market. From hot towel shave treatments and trendy haircuts to straight razor shaves and additional a la carte services, the ambiance and skilled barbers make each visit more than just a haircut, they make it a true gentleman’s experience. The Spot Barbershop, set to occupy 1,200 square feet on the second floor of CocoWalk, has 14 locations across Florida.

“We have a longstanding relationship with CocoWalk, having operated a store there for many years,” said Edward Beiner, Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of Edward Beiner Eyewear. “The refreshed, modern look is going to revive the neighborhood as a premier shopping destination – making it the perfect platform for our Eyes Forward vision – which focuses on cutting edge practices, innovation and providing the ultimate in customer service. CocoWalk is a staple in Coconut Grove, and the new renovations are truly going to revamp the location and bring new life to the area.”

CocoWalk’s fresh look has been designed in scale with the neighborhood’s existing aesthetic, incorporating water and landscaping features. Its centerpiece is an open-air courtyard that extends into the adjacent pedestrian streetscape – an inviting oasis destined to become one of the City’s great public spaces.
